The styling: Y.S Park

FullSizeRenderCrown’s Sophie Mosca ticked a must off her stylist bucket recently when she visited the Y.S Park in Tokyo and walked out with a set of hair tools to add to her already enviable kit.

Y.S Park is a Japanese brand of styling tools our team love to use and recommend. Every comb and brush has a story, something our Director of Colour, Kathy Gilbert, discovered when she had the opportunity to meet Young Soo Park, the genius and passion behind the YS brand, at Hair Expo in Melbourne this year.

“We are really selective in what we use in the salon and feel connected with the makers of the brands that make up our range so it was a real treat for me to meet Young Soo Park. He is fascinating and such a character. He has a story for every single brush and comb.

For example, he explained to me about the precise qualities of a tail comb I’d purchased from the range he’d brought out from Japan for Hair Expo. Every tooth on that tail comb is 100 of 100th of a millimetre closer so that the tension, from top to bottom, is equal. For the user this means when you tease the hair you get a totally equal effect and you don’t need to do as much work to get the best result.

This kind of talk is exciting for a hair nerd like me and it fits totally with our salon culture. We are all about treating and managing hair the most efficient way possible. We believe in being considerate of hair from what we do to it to the client who owns it, and that’s why we stock YS Park”.

Crown’s Director of Styling, Mark Jones, concurred “I love using Y.S. Park tools and do so for practically every client. He is definitely a leader in this area with his innovative designs. His brushes are so beautifully crafted and are created from the philosophy of getting maximum results with minimum effort.

They are light to hold, easy to clean, and designed for different types of looks. The Black Carbon Tiger brushes are more universal in the sense that you can do a multitude of things with them. You can stretch a curl out, or put a curl in. The Curl Shine Style brushes, on the other hand, have bristles designed to give your hair more shine. The whole range is pretty amazing”.
