Quick Snips: Paolo Rossi

Paolo Rossi is Crown’s principal stylist, and one of the integral jewels in our crown. We took a few minutes to catch up with Paolo and find out what makes him snip.

What have you most enjoyed about being a part of the team at Crown? I have most enjoyed working with a great team and mentors. It has been so nice to go to work everyday for almost 7 years and continually learn from people who are industry leaders and great teachers. I haven’t stopped learning from Kathy and Mark since the day I started with them as a second year apprentice. It’s also been so nice to have peers who you respect and can get along with on a daily basis and share knowledge and learn from as well. We are a great team and it’s so nice to be a part of and I really believe clients feel that and it sets us apart from a lot of other salons

Paolo Hair3Tell us about how you got started in hair – what inspired you to get into the industry?
I always wanted to work in an creative industry. When I finished school, after a year of graphic design, I decided that I wasn’t ready to study and wanted to work. I always had an interest in the creative aspect of hairdressing and decided I would pursue it. I liked the idea of working with my hands and meeting lots of new people

What does beautiful hair mean to you? Beautiful hair means hair that works for the individual. Making the most of a clients hair texture and  colour and creating the best possible hair to work and compliment the client. Hair is your biggest accessory and I think when it works and makes you feel and look good then it’s beautiful

Paolo Hair ColourHow have your influences changed from when you first started? I think my influences have changed over the years to be more holistic. My approach to hair has developed to incorporated a lot more than just cutting and colour. I’m influenced by other hairdressers and trends but also art and nature.

Where do you draw your aesthetic inspiration from?
I think my aesthetic inspiration comes from a lot of different areas. I’m inspired by art, design, fashion as well as architecture. I think keeping an open eye for beauty and form all around me has helped me develop my aesthetic.

Paolo Hair4Tell us what’s coming up next for youI’m going to be studying architecture! I’m moving to Adelaide to study at University of South Australia. I’m very excited it’s something I have wanted to do for many years.
Has hairdressing impacted your next move? Do you think you’ll take anything from hairdressing to your next chapter? Yes! Hairdressing has helped me grow as a person and professionally. I have met an incredible array of people from all walks of life, who have shared and inspired me. Hairdressing has given me the ability to develop my creativity and give me confidence in my work and ability as a creative individual. I think there’s so much that I will carry forward from hairdressing to the next chapter of my life. The ability to see and understand form shape and balance, understanding and working with a client and building relationships with people are all things I will carry forward.
