Nailing it: Smith & Cult

lovers-creepDineh Mohajer was a young medical student when she took a fresh approach to painting nails and mixed two colours to create a powder-blue that not only became an accidental fashion trend in the 90’s but a multi-million dollar cosmetics business.

She is now the creative genius behind Smith & Cult and it is no accident why we love and chose her varnishes for Crown Hair.

“There is nothing I don’t like about Smith & Cult. They are quite simply the most beautiful polishes” explains Crown’s Colour Director, Kathy Gilbert. “The colour you see in the bottle is exactly the colour you will see on your nails.

It’s really long wearing and has a high performance quality which personally I love given my work. More importantly though, the range is devoid of all nasty chemicals which fits perfectly with our ethos and the rest of Crown’s products”.

kings-_-thievesAntonia Calabrese, one of the younger hairdressers at Crown Hair, who looks after the manicures agrees. “We care about what products we use on our clients and the environment. Did you know Formaldehyde is a common ingredient in nail polishes? Why on earth would we expose our clients or ourselves to that?”

Making the biggest impression however are the brand’s colours which are as classy and sassy as that first Hard Candy “Sky” Mohajer created decades ago. Inspired by the duality of our everyday life and our fashion/beauty choices around that, Smith & Cult’s 30 plus shades cater to all sorts of situations, styles or just your mood on any given day.

The broad palate offers edgier street styles like the opaque dark ink blue of “Kings & Thieves” and the elephant grey of “Stockholm Syndrome” to traditional vintage hues like “Kundalini Hustle” and an excellent range of neutrals catering to every kind of skin tone.

It doesn’t matter which colour you pick though, the result is always an impressively smooth finish with great shine. It also takes no time to dry hard. They’re pretty amazing to use”.

Crown Hair is thrilled to be one of a handful Sydney stockists to carry the Smith & Cult line.
